Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated one-to-one support for a pupil with ASD throughout the school day.
- Support the pupil in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
- Implement strategies recommended by the class teacher, ALNCo, and external professionals.
- Adapt learning resources and activities to meet the pupil's individual needs.
- Promote the pupil's independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
- Support the development of social and communication skills.
- Use positive behaviour management strategies to encourage engagement and learning.
- Help the pupil regulate their emotions and manage transitions throughout the day.
- Foster positive relationships between the pupil and their peers.
- Monitor and record progress, behaviour, and learning outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Adhere to all safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies.
- Experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or additional learning needs.
- Strong understanding of the challenges associated with autism and strategies to support pupils effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, caring, and empathetic approach.
- Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) (or willingness to register).
- Two professional references.
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification (or equivalent).
- Experience providing one-to-one support in a school setting.
- Knowledge of sensory needs and sensory regulation strategies.
- Experience supporting pupils with communication difficulties, social interaction needs, or challenging behaviour.
- Training in Team Teach, Thrive, PECS, Makaton, or similar interventions.
- Knowledge of Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and Additional Learning Needs (ALN) support.
